Alastair McLeod and an admiring fan (on her Birthday) at our last Open Day.
SUNDAY 31 JULY - 10.00am to 2.00pm
Open Day Activities
Special Guests - Celebrity Chef Alastair McLeod & wife Ashleigh
Alastair will give a talk about his passion for local produce, knowing the farmer and what exciting things he's up to lately. It's a great chance to get to say hello to our Official Lockyer Valley Food Ambassador. NOTE: Alastair and Ashleigh will also be at the upcoming Regional Flavours event on July 16 & 17 cooking up Lockyer Valley produce at that event. We'll be exhibiting there too. Come and say hello!!
Organic Talk by Rob Bauer - Owner of Bauer's Organic Farm
Rob, one of the pioneers of the organic industry in Australia, will give a talk about growing organically on a large scale sustainably over a long period of time and he'll also give you tips for your home vegie garden. Hear a bit about Rob's 34 year journey of organic farming and how to buy our produce.
Short Walk to Vegies in the Field
Much of the farm is spread out across the creek and way beyond so we won't be trekking off there, however we will do a couple of short walks to see what's growing close by. We have 340 acres in total so we won't make you walk the whole lot!!

Bring a BYO Picnic Lunch to enjoy on the farm
Bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy on our grassy lawns near the garlic paddock. Please remember to bring along some picnic chairs and a blanket to if you wish. Also bring your bottles of water (can be refilled on the day if necessary) and a thermos of tea or coffee etc. ...... and don't forget hats and covered comfy walking shoes (there's not much walking but enough for comfy shoes).
Xpresso Mobile Coffee Bar - Toowomba will be on-site!
As a special treat we've organised Frank from Xpresso Mobile Coffee Bar in Toowoomba to be selling coffees on the day. He's done a great job sourcing organic ingredients and is looking forward to serving you some delicious beverages!
Short Walk to Packing Sheds, Machinery Shed and Hay Shed
We'll wander down the hill to the packing sheds, hay shed and coldrooms and learn how the vegies are graded, packed and stored (briefly) on farm.
Short Walk to the Mango Patch
No .... there won't be any mangoes on the trees at this time of the year, but Rob will give you a couple of tips on how to grow (and train) a mango tree in your backyard .... even if you are short on space!! .... or grow 'hedgerow' mangoes on a more commercial scale.
Collect your pre-purchased box of Dutch Cream Potatoes
We will be putting boxes of Dutch Cream Potatoes onto our website for pre-purchase and pick up on the Open Day. We would prefer and EFT payment when you order, however cash on the day will be fine too. The important thing is to place your order so there is a box with your name on it waiting for collection. They will be super fresh, new season taters!! You'll find an easy recipe in the box too.
Chance to purchase a bale (or two) of certified organic hay
Certified Organic Lucerne Hay will also be available for purchase - order online or at the farm. Take home a treat for your neddies or other hay eating family members, or mulch for your organic vegie patch.
