HISTORY OF LUCERNE ON THE FARM

Rob Bauer is known Australia-wide and beyond for his top-quality, award-winning certified organic vegies.  His family have farmed here at Mt Sylvia since 1885 growing both vegetables and hay for generations.  The historic, black and white photos shows lucerne growing on the farm and how it was loaded back in the days before mechanised balers and all the other equipment now used. Rob's father Herb had the very first 'twine-tie baler' in the district and used to do contract baling for neighbouring farmers, with a young Rob as his offsider.

Rob has spent his whole life on the same farm, continuing the family tradition of growing vegies and lucerne, turning the farm back to organic in the early 1980's. His hay ended up at many of Australia's top racing enterprises due to it's quality.  The same super fertile soil that grows award-winning vegies grows beautiful nutrient rich lucerne hay.

After a break from growing lucerne for many years, we are super excited to have started growing lucerne once again in 2015 and it's all certified organic (ACO & NOP) as well.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC LUCERNE = GOOD FOR YOUR HORSE?

It's grown completely without the use of poisonous chemicals. We believe it's a bad idea to put poisons on our food, so why should our four-legged friends be any different.

TRUDE'S 'HORSEY' STORIES

Trudy Townson has been the Public Relations Co-ordinator for Bauer's Organic Farm for many years, and is now a business partner.  She's also 'horse-mad' and has shown horses in all sorts of equestrian disciplines for more than 30 years. She has written a couple of short stories about two of her favourite show horses and how she believes Rob's organic lucerne hay helped keep them in the winners circle.

OUR LUCERNE HAY IS "CERTIFIED ORGANIC"  .... NOT JUST ORGANIC - ACO and also USDA NOP

Being certified means that the farm and the crops, both vegies and fodder, are checked regularly by an independant auditing system through Australian Certified Organic. Anyone can claim to be growing organically but to be certified means adhering to very stringent standards and going through in-depth on farm auditing. This is your guarantee that you truly are buying Certified Organic .... the real deal.
